Live Remote Cybersecurity Awareness Training for Nonprofit Teams

501Secure Live Remote Cybersecurity Awareness Training equips nonprofit teams with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their remote work environment safely. Each interactive training is specifically designed for a nonprofit audience and is tailored to your organization's unique risks, technology, and specific challenges.

Beyond just sharing information, we create a safe and engaging space for your team to ask questions, discuss concerns, and significantly boost their awareness of online safety risks and best practices. Our trainings are designed to be informal and accessible while facilitating relevant knowledge transfer for adult learners.

Our training for teams is complemented by an optional a self-paced, 60-minute companion tutorial. The self-paced tutorial is available for 90 days after the live session. Staff will receive periodic reminders for unfinished training. Upon completion, you'll receive a completion report to track your team's participation.

Every October we open registration for a free, two-part, remote cybersecurity awareness training for eligible nonprofits as a part of our annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month outreach.

We understand that free is a loaded word in our sector. However, providing standardized awareness trainings at no cost to members of the nonprofit community least able to afford them is one of our core mission services. The trainings are noncommercial, updated yearly, and developed specifically for our sector. Each training is given by a qualified Inland Northwest Executive Service Corps member during the months of January and February.

We invite small nonprofit organizations to register in October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and then select a day and time to receive a lively and interactive instructor-led training about online safety. The live training is complemented by 30-day access to a self-paced companion tutorial that dives into the nitty-gritty of spotting the latest phishing trends, using A.I. safely, and securing personal devices and home work environments.

Designed for small organizations with remote teams that may not yet have a security awareness program or that need to meet security training compliance requirements. We've designed our community training program to grow in capacity as demand grows. However, we encourage nonprofits interested in participating to sign up and schedule their training early to get the day and time they prefer.

For more information about the free annual training and how to participate, including estimated administrative and staff time commitments, sign up to be notified when registration opens. We'll send you our Cybersecurity Awareness Training Planning Guide to assist your organization in preparing to take advantage of our yearly trainings.

Our Training Philosophy

We believe in a holistic approach to cybersecurity awareness. While training is a foundational component, it's important to understand its role within a broader security strategy.

Here are a few caveats to keep in mind:

  • To be effective, training must be viewed as one aspect of a comprehensive strategy that includes policies, technology, process controls, and accountability.

  • Given that human error is inevitable, accidents happen, and no program of security can ensure zero risk, a well-thought out and rehearsed incident response plan is also essential. A response plan (and training on how to use it) will ensure access to important data, business communications, and essential processes in the event that a cyber incident occurs.

  • Each person learns differently, information retention will vary by individual. It is important to repeat important messages often, including regular intervals of refresher training throughout the year.

  • Organizational culture and resource constraints also play a part in security strategy. How seriously staff takes training depends on existing culture and cues from leadership.

  • To truly build a resilient culture of security it must be championed by leadership, regularly discussed at meetings, and integrated into daily processes and into measures of accountability.

Training is an essential first step toward improving security when it is implemented in the wider context of an overall security program. We can help you with mapping out what this looks like for your organization and team.
